M. H. Murray, born Mathew Hubert Murray, is a filmmaker and writer based in Toronto, Canada. Murray co-created his first big project, a web series simply titled Teenagers, when he was 19 years old and in film school. The series—which he also wrote, directed, and edited—ran for three seasons and has been viewed more than 15 million times on YouTube. NOW Magazine called the series “provocative, sexy, and addictive.”

For his work on the series, he won awards for Best Screenplay and Best Canadian Series at the Vancouver Web Series Festival. In 2016, he received a Mississauga Arts Council Award as the city’s Best Emerging Media Artist. In 2017, he was nominated as Best Director by the International Academy of Web Television. Murray’s film work primarily focuses on queer characters and themes, sometimes through a supernatural or horror lens.

His latest short films Ghost (2020) and Spaghetti (2023) have screened at film festivals internationally. His debut feature film, I Don’t Know Who You Are, had its world premiere at the 2023 Toronto International Film Festival in the Discovery program. It will be released in theatres across the U.S. and Canada in 2024.

In 2014, while in film school, Murray launched Black Elephant Productions, a film production company through which he continues to produce his work. He is currently developing several projects, including more feature films and a Teenagers spin-off series. His second feature film as a writer and director is a queer horror project titled Son of Sara, which is in post-production and slated for a 2024/2025 release.
